Heidelberg, September 2010. The authentic maritime atmosphere of an old ship
combined with „la dolce vita“ of the Italian cuisine can now be found in
Heidelberg. From now on, the exclusive Boutique-Hotel Heidelberg Suites also
holds the restaurant and bar ship Heidelberg Suites Patria. Equipped with a
noble yacht style, it offers its guest an extraordinary ambience on the water. The
modernized and redesigned ship has its landing stage right in front of the hotel
and cruises the charming landscape of the Neckar valley in the evenings.
Hundreds of Heidelberg’s visitors cruise the tranquil Neckar every day on different
vessels. As of now, a rare jewel can be discovered underneath the philosopher’s path,
right in front of the Boutique Hotel Heidelberg Suites: The Heidelberg Suites Patria. It
is a small ship of the 1930s, completely restored and modernized. As a restaurant- and
bar ship, the Heidelberg Suites Patria offers its guest a unique experience. „No other
hotel in Germany can come up with a yacht restaurant“, says proprietor Peter Hütter.
Several times a week the ship takes its passengers on a romantic cruise with
Mediterranean flair. A Mediterranean „brunch à la carte“ is offered on Sundays.
The Florentine architect Michele Bönan, who already gave the Heidelberg Suites its
one-of-a-kind-style, also created the interior of the Patria. Bönan, who himself is the
proud owner of the former longboat of the Onassis family, specializes not only in the
interior design of hotels, but also in designing exclusive yachts. When designing the
Heidelberg Suites Patria, Bönan drew inspiration from the luxury yacht-design of the
1950s.
Like a Venetian bridge, a long landing stage leads to an adorned wrought-iron gate -
the ship’s entry. The equipment of the Patria is as elegant as relaxing. „We wanted to
create a club – atmosphere, just like on a private yacht“, Hütter underlines. As already
at the old villa of the Heidelberg Suites, Bönan has allowed the ship its original
character, but thereby casually put in scene exclusive furniture and accessories. Rustcolored
leather sofas with typical yacht chairs, heavy cream-colored curtains in a
“Grace-Kelly-style“ are placed within the restaurant and bar area. The upper decks
with their lounge chairs and thick cushions invite to relax and the fireplace room in the
bow provides a large table for private dinners. „What would be more appealing than a
meeting on the water?“ Hütter says, „the view onto the water would undoubtedly be
inspiring.”
Chef de cuisine Franco di Battista and his crew serve upscale Mediterranean cuisine,
presented with an amazing finesse. Roughly 50 persons can be seated on board,
either in the elegant restaurant, on the upper deck or on the convenient decks outside.
Here, the guests may enjoy an aperitif and above all, a unique nautical experience in a
beautiful picturesque setting. At the time when Heidelberg’s romantic scenery
diminishes in an orange-red sunset and a little wind comes up, the Mediterranean flair
is perfect.
The Boutique Hotel Heidelberg Suites, opened in January 2009 as well as the Heidelberg Suites
Guesthouse are the property of the Hütter Gbr, based in Sinsheim. Since February 2010 Heidelberg
Suites Patria is also part of the entrepreneurial family Hütter.

A journey is always an experience and a hotel is often a visual inspiration for its
guests. Nowadays, hotel guests have rising expectations regarding the design and
ambience of a hotel and the increasing number of Boutique-Hotels underlines this
trend. Hotel guests appreciate being surrounded by precious and stylish décor and
they are fascinated by the diversity of styles. At the Heidelberg Suites, they experience
the perfect setting in scene of Italian Flair in combination with Heidelberg’s history in a
relaxed atmosphere as if they were visiting good friends. All 25 suites are individually
furnished and impress with harmonic and warm tones, exclusive furniture and perfectly
matched accessories. From now on, the Heidelberg Suites guests may take home the
exceptional style of this exclusive hotel. It is as easy as that: When you fall in love with
the one or other piece of the interior, you may order it as a "Home Selection". The
vanilla wing chair for instance, the desk chair of precious wood, the photographies of
Massimo Listri or the silhouettes on the wall: everything can be ordered, even the
carpets and fabrics of Dedar or Estro Fiorentino’s lamps. All pieces of furniture are
manufactured at the highest artistic stage in different Italian ateliers. Customizations
concerning colour and material are possible on request.
"For me as a perfectionist seeking harmony, it is very attempting to create something
special and to give life to a building", says Michele Bönan. Therefore, Bönan’s projects
always bear his unique handwriting - naturalness and elegance with a sublime
lightness. The architect was influenced by the Heidelberg romanticism and once more
proved his sense for cultural inheritance and authenticity. Bönan, who not only
conceives hotels - most recently the Ferragamo Design hotels in Italy – but also
furnishes private residences and yachts, always combines functionality with lifestyle.

Heidelberg, March 2009. The Boutique-Hotel HEIDELBERG SUITES, opened in

picturesque banks of the Neckar, the hotel is unique in Heidelberg offering fivestar

Michele Bönan. He created a luxury resort, which revives the German
romanticism in a facile combination with Italian elegance. In the exterior Bönan sets in
scene this perfect synthesis with a classicistic front. In the interior silhouettes of
important German poets, antlers and Italian busts and frescoes match playfully. The
combination of architectural excellence and distinguished design, coupled with a

maxim. Apart from the stylish interior, conveniences like a spacious bathroom most

penthouse suite allowing an all-time view of Heidelberg’s stunning scenery. Its own
whirlpool on the rooftop terrace indulges sophisticated guests. The small intimate spaarea
with sauna, steam-bath and fitness equipment surprises with a combination of an
inviting coziness and an exceptional design. You can perfectly linger, enjoy or relax on
the spacious rooftop terrace with panoramic view or in the romantic garden area with
Jacuzzi. The special guest service offers a limousine-shuttle, an in-house bike-rental
